No matter the season or year, we always seem to reference the past while looking towards our future in the way we dress to how we live our daily lives. The 80’s and 90’s fashion are some of the most loved eras of fashion, as we see a comeback of many of the styles with a modern flavour. Here are some of our favourite trends.
As South Africa heads into the winter season, there is no reason for the drip to die along with the leaves. A few good stying tricks mean that you don’t have to buy a whole new wardrobe but instead, restyling what you already own with a few new fresh kicks here and good ol’ accessories to liven up your look.
Athleisure with a Throwback Twist:
Looks like the athleisure bandwagon has also embraced the retro-inspired look, with the comeback of the fanny pack paired with a pair of trendy sports luxe or dad sneakers, you’re good to go. This look is comfortable, chic and easy breezy. Look, I get it; it is a thin line between comfort and sloppy dressing but like everything else, there is a method to this madness too; and that’s why brands have launched sports luxe items in so many variants, you cannot help but be a fan and going the crew.
Remember your mother’s or father’s big puffer’s jacket that looked like it had a rainbow splattered all over it, well now you can rock that same one without looking like a lost kid blasted from the past. You can easily give it a fresh modern spin with some cool kicks and monochrome outfit underneath (like this all black ensemble in this picture above).
A Shady Nostalgia:
The retro-sunnies are making a shady comeback. With all the fun shapes are size, how can you not want a pair of your own?. If you have nostalgia for “the good ol’ days” and get into the 90s groove, then you should try a pair of retro shades look. Plus, the cool kids are rocking them, so you won’t stick out like a sore thumb.
