While the first range was great, we especially appreciate the new installment for collaborating with artists of colour. Meet the three young black graphic artists whose work is part of the new Project + range.
Award-winning illustrator, street artist and graphic designer from Johannesburg.
“I love the aesthetic of Hawaiian and Cuban shirts. I wanted to create a South African version of this. The illustration has the same feeling of Summer and vibrant colours but echoes nature and Summer in South Africa with the leopard and word “chiskop”.
“My favourite medium is a tie between black ink markers and digital vector work.”
Self taught illustrator, designer and photographer from Pretoria.
“My design was done digitally using a unique style and technique to give it a different flavour and feel from your normal tees; it’s inspired by a lot of Afrocentric movement.”
“My favourite medium is charcoal because of the textures one can get across different sheets of paper. And digital as it’s the one that allows you to make as many mistakes in order to perfect your art.”
Graphic designer and illustrator from Johannesburg.
“I’m trying to debunk the notion that selfies are an act of narcissism and self-righteousness. So, I’ve presented the selfie as an act of self-love and self-belief rather than vanity. The design style is referenced from my ‘Davetionery’ project where I fuse pictures with words.”
“My favourite medium is personalised user experiences and custom everything. Custom shoes, custom jackets and brands embracing how consumers often yearn for individuality.”
The other young artists featured in the campaign are Shaun aka That Damn Vandal, Keya Tama, Micheal Dos Ramos, Skye Steen and Keith Vlahkis.
All the t-shirts are now available in all MRP stores and online for only R99.99.
